Tai Chi a Chinese Form of Martial Arts

T’ai chi which is short for T’ai chi ch’uan is a Chinese form of martial arts. It is practiced for its health benefits and well being. Some practice T’ai chi for defense. Taiji is a philosophy of the two forces. They are yin and yang that are opposite forces to each other. They are incorporated in the T’ai chi styles and moves. T’ai chi was firstly used as a martial art. Later it was practiced for a variety of reasons. Sometimes in wrestling competitions. Tai chi was believed to extend life in its longevity. There are different forms of T’ai chi that are practiced both in modern and traditional styles. Some training forms can be fast movements and others can be slow and graceful movements.

Tai Chi Styles and Forms

T’ai chi has spread widely around the world. Most modern styles were thought to of developed through one or more of the five traditional schools of T’ai chi: Chen, Yang, Wu (Hao), Wu and Sun, and their roots can be traced back to the Chen Village.
